WESTPORT - The Westport Cinema Initiative unveiled plans this morning to build a movie theater in downtown Westport.The director of the group says it will have to raise nearly $4 million to build the three-screen independent theater.A lot behind 142 Main St. is the space where the group plans to build the theater. Organizers say it's one of the last undeveloped lots in Westport, but they hope to have the theater there in about two years.The movie theater would be the first in downtown Westport in over a decade. Project planners say the theater would show mostly independent films, but also run new and classic movies.
