New year brings postage rate increase

The new price, which goes into effect Jan. 26, will raise the rate of first class stamps from 46 cents to 49 cents. (12/26/13)

GREENWICH - Postal regulators say they have approved a price increase that would raise the rate of postage beginning next month.

The new price, which goes into effect Jan. 26, will raise the rate of first class stamps from 46 cents to 49 cents.

Officials say the three-cent hike will last no longer than two years in an effort to allow the Postal Service to regain nearly $2.8 billion in losses.
