WILTON - Officials celebrated the opening of the newly expanded Route 7 on Thursday after a three-year wait.

Town officials were excited to see that the two lanes going in both directions were finished before its original deadline of next spring.

The three-mile stretch that was loaded with construction and cones is finally clear, which has some local business owners relieved.

"I think it's just great for the overall flow of Route 7, getting on the road, getting my guys to the jobs on time," electrical contractor Mike Amato said.

Officials also plan to widen the remaining stretch of Route 7 in south Wilton, but have no timetable on its completion.
