NEWTOWN - A group of Boston Marathon runners from Newton that was honoring the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting are safe.

The Newtown Strong team said on Facebook that they were OK after two explosions went off near the finish line yesterday.

The group raises money for the siblings of those killed in the December shootings.

A moment of silence was held before the race to honor the victims of Sandy Hook.
