Newtown High School football team won't have to play Class LL state title game on Dec. 14 anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings

NEWTOWN - The undefeated Newtown High School football team will not have to play on the anniversary of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Officials approved the school's request to hold the state championship game on Dec. 13 instead of Dec. 14 if Newtown reaches the finals.

The team is the top seed in the Class LL bracket and is set to play Ridgefield tonight.

The team has dedicated its season to the 26 victims.
