HARTFORD - A gallery at the State Capitol in Hartford displays photographs of the thousands of memorials that arose in the days following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School one year ago.

Created by Darien photographer Robert Carley, the Photos of Hope exhibit documents the memorials. Carley photographed tributes across Connecticut and elsewhere, including a graffiti tribute in Philadelphia.

"Day after day, I would drive up to Newtown and I would keep seeing more and more tributes, a tidal wave of expressions of love," says Carley. "They took my breath away."

Carley says the memorials, especially ones created by children, inspired him to create the exhibit.
