FAIRFIELD - A new playground is being built at Penfield Beach in Fairfield in memory of one of the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

A groundbreaking was held at the site yesterday where the playground will be built in memory of Jessica Rekos. A ribbon cutting and dedication will be held tonight.

The project is being run by the Sandy Ground Project, which was started by firefighters in New Jersey. The goal of the organization is to build 26 playgrounds throughout the tri-state area in memory of each victim of the mass shooting.

This is the ninth playground being built. Playgrounds dedicated to student Dylan Hockley and teacher Victoria Soto recently opened in Westport and Stratford.
