DARIEN - A Darien woman's mission to educate her community about the environment has led her to a 170-night trip in her backyard.

Nina Miller, 62, is spending a year sleeping in a tent just feet from her back door. Despite Darien's dense population, Miller says there's still plenty of wildlife that needs to be protected.

In her time outside, she says she's been inches from beautiful birds, snakes and a whole host of other local creatures. Miller says sleeping in the polar vortex, thunderstorms and heat waves has only brought her a greater respect for her town's natural environment. She says her mission is to get others to feel the same way.
