BRIDGEPORT - Workers from nonprofit organization Homefront spent Friday putting up a new roof for a Bridgeport family whose home was damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Victor Martinez is a single father with three young daughters whose roof was wrecked in last year's storm.

The repair cost $10,000, but was covered by the nonprofit organization.

Homefront decided to focus its efforts on repairing homes hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. The Martinez home was the 20th home they have repaired that was damaged by the storm.

“I didn't know what I was going to do without these people, and I wasn't expecting help until the spring, and they're trying to get it done for me now,” Martinez said. “I'm really gratified by that.”

Homefront officials say they still plan to complete makeover projects for seven more homes in Connecticut before the end of the year.
