STAMFORD - A national nonprofit that started in southwestern Connecticut is getting ready for a local fundraiser that will send people down the side of 22-story building in Stamford.
Shatterproof is an organization dedicated to fighting addiction. Its fundraiser is the Shatterproof Challenge, for which people across the country rappel down buildings to help raise awareness.
Gary Mendell, of Easton, started Shatterproof three years after his 25-year-old son took his own life. His son had battled drug addiction for several years.
Mendell says he saw a need to help others dealing with the disease of addiction.
The Shatterproof Challenge rappel is Saturday, Oct. 8 at Beacon Harbor Point in Stamford.
News 12 Connecticut's Kristi Olds will be one of the people rappelling down the 22 stories.
