NORWALK - A Norwalk man accused of holding his ex-girlfriend hostage with a fake gun was arraigned on a home invasion charge today.

Police say William Gemmell, 57, was waiting for the woman at her home, grabbed her arm and told her he wanted money. He displayed what appeared to be a real handgun, according to police.

The woman had an order of protection against Gemmell stemming from a previous incident.

Police say Gemmell surrendered to officers and told them he was recently released from a psychiatric ward.

A judge raised Gemmell?s bond to $250,000. He is also charged with interfering with a 911 call. Gemmell is due back in court later this month.
