NORWALK - Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia says the city has cleared its biggest hurdle in making way for a new indoor sports complex.

Currently, the 2.6-acre property on Ely Avenue is home to an abandoned chemical company. But after Wednesday night?s zoning approval, it will soon house a 50,000-square-foot sports facility.

Norwalk-based Q Properties, LLC is behind the proposal that Moccia says is being welcomed with open arms. Moccia says while the facility will be for-profit venture, it will help the city and its residents.

The Department of Environmental Protection must now monitor the abandoned site before any ground is broken. The DEP will also be on hand during construction.
