NORWALK - Parents rallied at Norwalk City Hall today to protest the school district's planned budget cuts, then took their arguments inside to a public hearing. The Council Finance Committee invited union and Board of Education representatives to the meeting, where education officials say money was not missing but rather inaccurately budgeted. Norwalk schools are currently facing a $4 million budget gap, which could jump to around $6 million next year. Some parents say laying off school employees is one possible solution. This afternoon's rally was organized by Barabra Smyth, a parent who says she will not stand by as school officials reduce the quality of her son's education. The possibility of a special audit was also discussed.
