NORWALK - Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling is being hailed a hero after spotting a shoplifter and seizing the stolen goods.

Rilling was in a Stop & Shop on Connecticut Avenue when he noticed a man stuffing items into a backpack. Rilling, 62, says he doesn't normally confront suspects one-on-one, but he approached the man, asked some questions and then chased him down when he tried to run.

Though the suspect got away, Rilling retrieved his backpack and returned the $148 worth of items to the store.

Rilling says a suspect was caught stealing items from a Marshall's and the incidents may be linked.
