NORWALK - The Norwalk Police Department held its first gun buyback program yesterday, giving residents gift cards for turning in any unwanted guns.

Police say they collected 18 guns from residents who turned the weapons in at police headquarters. A donation from a Norwalk resident paid for the gift cards that were given to residents.

Other communities that have hosted gun buyback programs since the mass shooting in Newtown last month include Stamford and Bridgeport.
