NORWALK - Norwalk residents helped raise thousands of dollars for two families left homeless after a fire destroyed their home.

Both the Lockwood and Avalos families lived inside the Sheridan Street home that was destroyed Friday morning. Everyone made it out safely except for a dog.

A fundraiser page for each family has been created on the website GoFundMe.com.

One neighbor who spoke with News 12 says it was terrible to watch the families lose everything in a matter of minutes.

Firefighters say they believe the fire started in the basement, but they're not sure what caused it.
