NORWALK - Hurricane Irene had the Norwalk River Rowing Association looking for higher ground today.

The association says it has about 30 rowing shells ranging in price from $10,000-$35,000 apiece. They are normally kept right along the Norwalk River, but today, members prepared them to be moved to a warehouse on Ely Avenue that was loaned to them for the weekend.

The racing shells are made of carbon fiber and are extremely light, which is why the high winds and flooding pose such a threat to the craft.

The rowers say they were willing to put in the work today to ensure that they have boats to come back to next weekend.
