NORWALK - A section of Ponus Avenue in Norwalk remains closed after a massive pipe rupture sent water pouring into the streets.

The break happened Sunday at around 9:30 p.m. near Bartlett Avenue. Officials with South Norwalk Electric and Water say the incident destroyed a large amount of asphalt in the area, meaning the intersection may not be open for several days.

Workers say the pipe's old age likely caused it to crack, affecting about 2,000 customers. However, only about 100 lost service completely.

Road reconstruction is likely to start by Tuesday or Wednesday, and is expected to be finished by the end of the week.
