Officer says family connection led to kidnapper's arrest

BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport police officer says it was an old family connection that led a North Carolina woman accused of kidnapping a baby girl in 1987 to seek his help surrendering.

Bridgeport Police Lt. David Daniels says he prompted Ann Pettway, 49, to relay a message to him on Facebook because she was a friend of his sister.

Daniels says Pettway is sorry about the pain she has caused. Pettway allegedly admitted to raising Carolina White as her own in Bridgeport for 23 years after failing in her own attempts to have children.

Pettway is currently being held without bail on kidnapping charges.
