STAMFORD - Officials say the grand opening of the new Chelsea Piers sports complex in Stamford is just a few months away.

Executive Director Mollie Marcoux says they are finishing up on all the mechanical systems to be able to start putting down the turf fields and tennis courts in the 400,000-square foot space that once housed a Clairol plant.

Marcoux adds that construction on the ice rinks is also moving along.

Workers were seen laying cement on what will become the Olympic-size hydraulic swimming pool, and the water slides were already going up for the indoor water park.

The complex will have courts for almost every sport, including basketball, squash and tennis. Chelsea Piers is expected to open its doors July 9.
