GREENWICH - The woman who was killed by an oncoming train as she tried to retrieve her purse off the tracks has been identified.

MTA authorities say 28-year-old Tamar Louis, of Stamford, was sitting on the platform at the Cos Cob station on Friday with her legs dangling over the edge.

The engineer of the approaching train saw her, blasted the horn, and tried to slow down, according to investigators. The train was going about 45 mph at the time, according to MTA officials, and was not scheduled to stop at the station.

The noise of the horn apparently startled Louis, who dropped her purse.

Officials say Louis then went onto the tracks to get her purse. She was struck and instantly killed.

Saturday would have been Louis' 29th birthday.
