STAMFORD - The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program says that mosquitoes in Stamford have tested positive for the West Nile virus.
Officials say the mosquitoes were trapped at Cove Island last week. These are the third positive mosquitoes identified this year along with Guilford and New Haven.
Now officials plan to put larvicide, which kills mosquitoes, in every catch basin in the city because they are breeding grounds for the bugs. They say there are more than 14,000 catch basins in Stamford so it will take a week or so to get it done.
