NORWALK - In the wake of several mishaps and tragedies in Connecticut waters, officials are urging the public to brush up on their water safety skills.

This past week, the body of 59-year-old Nikolay Papp was discovered in Ash Creek in Fairfield and the body of 12-year-old Rashad Gross was found after he drowned while swimming near Cove Island Park.

Just last night, officials reported that a boat capsized off of Cove Island Park in Stamford.

News 12 Connecticut’s Frank Recchia spoke with Greenwich Harbormaster Ian Macmillan about basic water safety rules and regulations.

Macmillan stressed the importance of knowing how to swim, how to use a life jacket, the dangers of swimming while drinking alcohol and being familiar with the environment.
