MILFORD - The Milford Fire Department held an open house today to give residents an idea of what went on behind the scenes during Tropical Storm Irene.

During Irene, the operations center was closed to the public and press.

Emergency operators, who handled an average of 700 calls a day during and after the storm, gave first-hand accounts of what happened.  Emergency crews also offered photos from police and fire dive teams who went out to rescue those who ignored evacuation orders.

Responders also asked residents to register for the city's emergency information line, which works as a reverse 911 service during events such as Irene.
