ORANGE - Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) honored a World War II engineer from Orange today after she helped him recover $34,000 in pension benefits.
George Posener, 99, worked as a civilian ordinance inspector and engineer during World War II. With the help of DeLauro, he was granted retroactive pension benefits that he hadn't received before. Posener said he's very appreciative of her help, and plans to donate the $34,000 he received to local community groups.
"I think he takes the good fortune he has received and he makes sure that others, particularly children are the beneficiaries," said DeLauro.
Groups receiving Posener's donations are the Ezra Academy, the Jewish Federation, the Yale School of Medicine, and the Beki Synagogue, who have already honored Posener with their Distinguished Service Award.
