WESTPORT - Westport parents say they found out much later than usual that classes had been canceled Monday due to the snowstorm.

A spokesperson for the school bus company, Dattco, says a few students had already gotten on their buses and drivers had arrived for work when they found out school was canceled.

The Dattco spokesperson says the district usually lets it know by 6 a.m. if school is canceled. Parents say they found out nearly an hour later than they would have expected.

News 12 Connecticut called Superintendent Eliott Landon to find out why he waited so long to cancel school, but he hung up.

Westport's first selectman also declined to comment.
