Parents, widow battle over cruise disappearance cash

GREENWICH - ? The parents and widow of a 26-year-old man who disappeared from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship were in court Tuesday to battle over a settlement.

The parents of George Smith, who went missing on his honeymoon in 2005, are contesting a settlement between their son?s widow and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. They say Jennifer Hagel-Smith reached the agreement without their knowledge.

About $1 million could be at stake in the case, which is being heard in probate court.

Smith went missing after witnesses say he and his new wife were drinking and arguing in the ship?s casino. In the aftermath of the disappearance, Smith?s parents criticized Royal Caribbean for wiping away blood stains on a canopy located below the newlyweds? cabin. They claim the cruise line?s actions were part of a cover-up.
