Pastry shop owner turns to boot camp to better her health

STAMFORD - Before heading to work at her bakeries in Greenwich and Stamford, Maria Di Mare goes through an intense workout at a boot camp in Stamford, a program Di Mare says has changed her life.

Di Mare, owner of the Di Mare Pastry Shops in Greenwich and Stamford, says she started going to the Fairfield County Adventure Boot Camp in Stamford as a way to improve to her health. She says she was feeling tired and ill and wanted to offset the temptations that come with working in a bakery.

The boot camp provides an intense workout for participants, with drill sergeant Rita Jagodzinski adding, "We challenge the women every day."

Di Mare has dropped 40 pounds already, and says she now has more energy, participating in two half-marathons.
