Communal patriotism is on the rise across the region in the wake of last week's Boston Marathon bombings.

According to psychologist Ruth Grant, displays of unity help people overcome feelings of isolation and helplessness that may follow tragic events. She adds that it is important to ensure a sense of belonging.

To that end, Stamford residents gathered for a short run while singer Neil Diamond led fans in a rendition of "Sweet Caroline" at Fenway Park.
