Penfield Pavilion unready for beachgoers

FAIRFIELD - Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, but one popular coastal spot in Fairfield is simply not ready yet for beachgoers.

The Penfield Pavilion project is months behind schedule. Officials say it's because the harsh winter weather delayed construction.

The project was supposed to be completed in time for Memorial Day, but officials now say it won't be done until the Fourth of July.

Some local residents say the area is an eyesore and an inconvenience. Others say they're glad to see crews at work and hope it will be completed soon.
