NEWTOWN - The tragedy in Newtown has inspired a group of firefighters from New Jersey to build a playground in honor of each of the 26 victims.

The group of firefighters say they were searching for ways to help others after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the region and the incident at Sandy Hook occurred. They ultimately decided to combine their efforts to pay tribute to victims of both tragedies, which led to the inspiration for the Sandy Ground Project.

The firefighters told News 12 they couldn't think of a better way to promote peace than to build playgrounds that allow kids to be kids.

The Sandy Ground Project has completed 15 playgrounds in the tri-state area, six of which are in Connecticut.
