FAIRFIELD - Two Bridgeport men were arrested Thursday after police say they slammed into a patrol car and barreled through a DUI checkpoint in Fairfield.

According to authorities, the driver, 22-year-old Steven Peterson, and his passenger, 23-year-old Juan Toj, were drunk when they smashed into an unoccupied Fairfield police car on Boston Post Road at around 2 a.m.

When a police officer pulled Peterson out of the car, Toj tried to make a getaway and slammed down the accelerator, smashing into another vehicle head on, police say. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Peterson and Toj have sustained non-life threatening injuries. Both men face multiple criminal charges.
