STAMFORD - Stamford police are searching for the man who assaulted two women early Saturday morning.

Police say the women were walking home when someone attacked them outside the First Presbyterian Church on Bedford Street, just down the street from the police department.

Authorities say the man approached the women to ask for directions, and suddenly began to punch them in the face before sexually assaulting one of them.

Investigators say tracks left behind in the snow are the only evidence of the attacks. Despite the footprints, however, they were not able to track the man down.

Officials say both women were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK. Police urge anyone who might know something about the attacks to contact them by calling 203-977-4444.
