Police: 2 youths behind threatening letters in Darien

Police say a second person has come forward claiming they received a threatening letter filled with a suspicious powder over the weekend.

DARIEN - Darien police have identified two female juveniles responsible for sending a pair of threatening letters that contained a non-toxic white powder.

Members of the Darien Police Detective Division, Youth Division and the school resource officer met with the suspects and their parents regarding the incidents. Police say the two confessed and took full responsibility, claiming the unidentified powder was a non-toxic food product.

Outside agencies still plan on conducting tests on the substances for verification.

Police say the two Darien residences the teens targeted were chosen at random and there are no more cases expected in the future.

Authorities say the latest developments will be discussed with the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice and a further course of action, including referrals to Juvenile Court, will be assessed.
