GREENWICH - Police have arrested a student accused of prompting a gun scare and lockdown at Greenwich High School this morning.

Authorities say students reported that Gianfranco Romero, 19, said he had a gun in his backpack and planned on shooting people. Security guards and teachers quickly rushed students into classrooms and told them to hide under their desks.

No one was allowed in or out of the school as police and the SWAT team swarmed the campus.

An extensive search of the school did not reveal any weapons.

School officials say there are counselors available if students feel as if they need to speak about the incident.
