BRIDGEPORT - Bridgeport police have arrested a man for allegedly bringing a BB gun onto school property.

Authorities say a parent alerted security Wednesday that John Teso, 63, was carrying a gun in his waistband in the Waltersville Elementary School parking lot. When confronted, Teso allegedly put the weapon in his vehicle and insisted he was at the school to pick up a student. He also allegedly claimed to be a police officer.

Teso's family says that the incident was a misunderstanding and that he meant no harm.

Teso was taken into custody, but some parents say they're concerned that they heard about the incident a day after it happened. Some got word of the arrest Thursday morning while others say they found out from the principal later in the day.

Police and school officials say that since the incident happened after dismissal, and the investigation went into the night, they followed protocol by sending out the letter the next day.

No injuries were reported.
