MILFORD - Police say a man claimed he had a bomb to rob Milford Bank on Bridgeport Avenue today.
Police say the suspect entered the bank at around 8:30 a.m. and placed a paper bag on the counter, indicating to the bank teller that a bomb was inside. According to police, the man then gave the teller a note and she handed him money before he took off.
The area was evacuated and the Connecticut State Bomb Squad was called to the scene. The bomb squad deployed a robot into the bank where they were able to physically rip the bag open. Officials say nothing inside the bag was explosive and the area was deemed clear more than two hours later.
