Police: Bridgeport man set puppy on fire

STRATFORD - A Bridgeport man was charged Tuesday with setting his pit bull puppy on fire in a Stratford park, police say.

Police officers were called to Clover Field Saturday after neighbors saw something burning. When police arrived, they found 21-year-old Donovan Brooks standing over the charred body of a puppy.

According to authorities, Brooks admitted to setting the dog on fire, but says the animal had died earlier.

Police say while Brooks was burning the puppy, he tied his three other dogs to poles with chains.

Brooks faces animal cruelty and reckless burning charges. He posted $1,000 bond and is due back in court next week.
