Police: Bridgeport standoff ends peacefully after 3 hours

BRIDGEPORT - Police closed down several blocks in Bridgeport tonight for three hours during a tense standoff after reporting to a domestic incident.

Officials say police, emergency crews and the Bridgeport SWAT team responded to a 911 call at 227 Carroll Ave. at around 6 p.m.

Lt. Richard Azzarito says a woman and a baby fled the home because another female was reportedly inside threatening to kill herself.

Azzarito said they were able to talk the woman out of the house peacefully around 9 p.m.

Police say the woman, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
