STAMFORD - Police are working to determine the identity of a badly decomposed body that was discovered in Stamford this morning.

According to investigators, a landscaping crew uncovered the remains while working in a small field on Highland Road in downtown Stamford.

"It's a male, and we can't determine race or anything else at this point," says Lt. Jim Matheny, of the Stamford Police Department. "The body has clearly been out here for probably close to two weeks."

Matheny adds that detectives can't rule out any potential cause of death, nor can they rule out foul play.

Stamford police are looking to speak to anyone who has been frequently seen around the spot where the body was found. Also, they say they'll immediately check into any people reported missing in the area in the last couple of weeks.
