NORWALK - Norwalk police say a man who led them on a chase after swiping a police car over the weekend is out on bond.

The pursuit happened at around 2 a.m. Saturday. Police say an officer was trying to stop Hakim Smith, 25, to speak to him when he took off at a high speed. He allegedly ran over a person's foot and hit a parked car before jumping a curb and swiping a police cruiser.

Police say Smith sped off heading westbound on Washington Street, then northbound on Fairfield Avenue. He then turned right onto Reed Street, where he lost control.

Smith drove through a chain-link fence that surrounds a construction site at West Avenue and Reed Street. Police say they Tasered him when he refused to get out of the car. 

Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, according to police.

Police say the pedestrian who was hit was not seriously hurt. Smith is due back in court next month.
