DARIEN - Darien police say they've identified the driver in a hit-and-run crash Saturday that left a teenager hospitalized.

Jake Eckhof, 15, is now in stable condition after he was struck from behind at around 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Hoyt Street near St. John's Cemetery.

Police say the driver, who they have not publicly identified, is an 89-year-old former teacher in the Stamford School department.

He told police he did not know he had hit anyone until seeing media reports on Sunday.

Police say the driver will likely face a charge of evading responsibility. They've also seized his license.
