BETHEL - Police say a seventh-grade girl from Bethel Middle School claims she was almost abducted by a stranger.

The girl claims she was almost abducted by a stranger after being dropped off by her school bus Monday. Police say the girl told them an industrial van with no markings made a U-turn and stopped in front of her at the intersection of routes 58 and 302, near the Redding town line.

Investigators say the girl told them she heard a door in the van open. When she turned around, a man allegedly came out and began to chase her. The girl managed to get to her home, and she says she saw the man get back in the van and take off.
