REDDING - Redding police say the man who fell from a 95-foot cliff over the weekend and later died was trying to commit suicide.
Redding Police Chief Douglas Fuchs says the man had made an attempt to jump to his death and that the department received a 911 call from hikers in the area who said they heard a man screaming.
Authorities say they received a call from the man's friend, who said he got an e-mail from the victim outlining his intent to commit suicide.
Two fire departments, Redding police and the Department of Environmental Protection all responded to the rescue.
