Police: Man slams SUV into Norwalk bodega

NORWALK - Police say a drunken driver lost control of his SUV and slammed into a building in Norwalk this morning, destroying a first-floor store and leaving several residents homeless.

According to investigators, the 36-year-old driver from Norwalk swiped off the front end of the store with his Chevy Tracker. The building has been deemed unsafe until all the debris from the crash is cleared away.

Jose Flores, who owns the store and also lives on the second floor of the same building, says he was left without his business and without his home.

The driver was taken to Norwalk Hospital. Police say they plan to charge him with driving while intoxicated.

The Red Cross is helping the three people who were forced out of their homes after the crash until they can make other arrangements.
