BRIDGEPORT - A Bridgeport man is facing charges after police say he stole a gun and then hid it in a yard where children were playing.

Police say 38-year-old Jermaine Whitaker was helping friends clean out a home on Vine Street in Stratford on Thursday when he found a firearm and ammunition.

Officials say Whitaker hid the gun and bullets in a yard next door where two kids were playing, intending to retrieve the items later.

The children's father found them and called police.
