Police: NY man charged in cooking oil thefts

NORWALK - Police say they've arrested the thief who stole gallons of cooking oil from several local restaurants and markets. Authorities say 38-year-old Andrew Carnegie, of Yonkers, N.Y., was caught with vats of stolen cooking oil in his van. Investigators say the manager of a Five Guys burger joint in Norwalk spotted Carnegie pumping oil into vats behind the restaurant this morning. He called police, who later spotted him stealing oil from a Westport market. Carnegie was stopped as he was pulling into a Shake Shack nearby, police say. He faces theft charges in Westport and Norwalk, but police say more charges are possible as the investigation continues. Authorities say the crime is becoming more common as the oil is increasingly used to create biofuel. The oil can be sold for around $2 per gallon. Cooking oil stolen from Norwalk restaurant
