Police Officer Morelli mourned at funeral

NORWALK - ? A grieving community gathered at St. Matthew?s Church in Norwalk Thursday for the funeral of Officer Matthew Morelli. Officers came from across Connecticut and beyond to pay their respects. More than 50 different police and fire departments were represented at the funeral, as well as the U.S. Marines. The 38-year-old officer was on duty when he was found shot to death early last Friday. Investigators believe that he took his own life. Officer Morelli was an 11-year veteran of the Norwalk Police Department and a former Marine.Following the mass, officers marched in a procession to St. John?s Cemetery, where Morelli was buried with full military honors.

Morelli leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter, who lives in Australia with his ex-wife. A trust fund was set up for the child.
