Police probe disappearance of $30K from ATM account

DARIEN - Darien police say they are investigating suspicious activity against an elderly woman's ATM account that resulted in more than $30,000 disappearing. Investigators say the suspicious withdrawals occurred over a six-month period, often in $500 increments. They say the money was withdrawn from Patriot National Bank and People's United Bank. Police say they will review surveillance footage from the ATMs and speak with bank employees to try and determine who withdrew the money and if a crime was committed. Officials say the case should also be a reminder for senior citizens about being cautious and guarding their personal identities.
