BRIDGEPORT - Police are investigating the discovery of a fetus in a dorm building at the University of Bridgeport today.

According to police, a custodian found the fetus in a communal garbage can on the seventh floor of Bodein Hall. They say all students living on that floor use the garbage room.

A representative for the university confirmed that a student was taken to an area hospital after having a miscarriage.

Officials say they are treating the incident as a criminal investigation. The fetus was taken to the chief medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
